FAQ
1. What are the features of these wall aquariums?

The aquariums feature a slimline design, that along with the inbuilt brackets allow the tanks to be mounted on a wall. Surrounding the tanks is a metal frame in the brushed aluminium finish. After years of selling we have found that this finish is most popular because it is easy to match and gives a modern, stylish look. Together these aspects of tank design allow you to use fishtanks as a decorative wall feature, and to include aquariums as a source of relaxation and calm in an innovative manner.

2. What is included in the wall aquarium package?

These aquariums are deliberately designed to be easy to start with. Every package comes with a free kit, which includes matching water filter, mounting brackets, backdrop and light. Tanks also include water siphon pump, plants tongs, and fish net. The only remaining tasks are the fun ones, add water then choose fish or plants to design a cool look, depending on your taste.

3. Is it easy to install a wall aquarium?

We have full instructions in the package. When we arranged the kits my test was to get my husband to install them. If he can do it, I assure you that most people will have no problem. You can easily install it step by step. Most of our buyers install the tanks by themselves. If you are not confident with the large size wall aquariums, what we suggest is to hire a handyman to install it for you.
For Articool Customers we will provide a DVD giving instructions on installation, setup and maintenance.

4. How about the cost if I hire a handy man to install it?

Normally the cost is around $60-$120. It depends on the tank size and the distance he has to travel to reach you. We suggest to call “hire a hubby”, because they can arrange a handy man in your suburb or the nearest one. Please visit www.hireahubby.com.au, or call 1800 803 339 for more information.

5. Can I install it if the wall made of plasterboard (gyprock)?

We and our customers regularly install tanks on gyprock walls. The secret is to locate the “studs”, or wooden posts that are spaced regularly behind the plasterboard. These studs can be located either by using a studfinder machine, or the old fashioned technique of tapping the walls to hear the more solid noise that indicates wood. Then you can mount your brackets directly onto the wood, and so the gyprock itself doesn’t take any load. The brackets on our tanks can be moved sideways along the tanks so that the spacing will match the spacing of the studs in your walls.

6. What sort of fish are suitable for the aquarium?

Because of the thin dimension of the tanks, we recommend that small fish only be used. A good size is 5cm or shorter. Alternatively, baby fish of a slow growing species could be used temporarily providing you have a larger tank to transfer them to once they get too big. The easiest fish to use are freshwater fish, as a saltwater aquarium requires a little more care and knowledge. Our aquariums can certainly be used as saltwater aquariums, but to set them up we recommend that you seek advice from your local fish shop.

Freshwater fish that we have found to be particularly suitable include:

  • Tetras, the Neon Tetra especially is perfect for our Rock backdrop.
  • Guppies
  • Barbs, Tiger Barbs particularly look very good.
  • Baby Gold Fish
  • Mollys
  • Small Gourami

  • 7. How is the tank maintained?

Maintenance of the fishtank is very straightforward and is the same as for any normal glass aquarium. Compared to a normal tank, our tanks are often much lower maintenance. This is because the smaller water volume and the excellent visibility means you only need a few fish. With much less fish there is much less waste to deal with, and so less work.
If you are new to keeping fish, we recommend that you seek the advice of your local fish shop, who will be happy to explain how to care for the type of fish that you are buying. Specific features of our tanks are explained in the instruction booklet that comes with your tank.

    8. Should I leave my lights on?

Although the light can make your tanks look great, leaving the lights on all the time will encourage the growth of algae in the water, which will send the glass and water green and would mean that you would have to clean your tank far more often. It is better to only leave the light on while you are looking at your tanks, and turn it off the rest of the time. This will save electricity too.

    11. How Do I Clean My Tank?

    1. Water Filtration: Your supplied water filter will keep the water clear.  However you must keep the filter clean.
  • Rinse the filter every 4 weeks or whenever the water doesn’t look clear.

    2. Water Replacement:  Every 4 weeks, drain out 25% of the water in the tank and replace it with aged water.

    3. Glass Cleaning: If you notice the glass becoming dirty, wipe it gently with a soft sponge.
  • To wipe the inside of your tank, you may use a sponge on a handle, or a magnetic cleaner (ask our staff for details).
